This Star Finder was specifically designed to be clear and easy to use for beginning stargazers. And, it has two learning or explorations levels. This is accomplished with stars plotted on both sides of the round star wheel (see photos). One side of the star wheel is for beginners who just want to learn the constellation and stars―it’s an uncluttered plotting of the stars. The other side of the star wheel (remove it from the sleeve and turn it over) plots numerous double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies for those who want to start exploring the night sky with a telescope―totaling over 125 objects.
This precision star chart has a pocket friendly price. It is made of long lasting card stock (cardboard) and measures 11.25 x 11 inches. The star wheel is 11-inches in diameter.
As you can see from the photos, the back of the Star Finder has instructions and is chuck full of interesting information about celestial objects. There are additional facts along both sides of the star wheel’s circumference.
Note: This Star Finder and similar star charts (technically, these are called planispheres) DO NOT indicate the position of the visible planets because the planets move through the plotted stars following a great circle in the sky called the ecliptic which passes through the twelve constellations of the zodiac. However, this Star Finder has website support where the positions of the visible planets are noted.
This chart can be used for latitudes between 35°N to 60°N which includes most of the US, Europe, Japan and areas of China and the Middle East.
