LS40THa Standard Kit — 40mm Dedicated H-Alpha Solar Telescope Lunt's most portable dedicated solar telescope. Grab-and-go hydrogen-alpha in a 2.6-pound package.

Now with new-generation etalons — every unit individually tested on Lunt's precision metrology equipment. Every specification is verified, not estimated.

The LS40THa Standard Kit puts serious hydrogen-alpha solar observing within reach. At just 2.6 pounds with a 400mm f/10 optical system, this is Lunt's most portable dedicated solar telescope — a true grab-and-go instrument that delivers the chromospheric detail, prominences, and filaments that make H-alpha observing so rewarding.

The front-mounted tilt-tuned etalon delivers 0.35Å verified bandpass with full unobstructed aperture — no central obstruction compromising your views. The SunLock solar finder gets you on-target safely in seconds. The 12mm flat-field eyepiece with 0.1% AR coatings provides 33x magnification for detailed views of active regions and prominences. Unpack the hard case, mount the telescope, and you are observing the chromosphere in minutes.

What You'll See

Point this telescope at the Sun and you are looking at the chromosphere — the dynamic layer where solar activity plays out in real time. Prominences arc off the limb in vivid detail, some towering tens of thousands of miles above the surface. Filaments, the dark sinuous channels of suspended plasma, thread across the disk. Active regions glow with the concentrated magnetic energy that drives solar flares. At 33x through the 12mm flat-field eyepiece you will resolve individual prominence structures, trace filament paths across the solar disk, and watch active regions evolve over the course of a single observing session. This is the Sun as it actually behaves: alive, dynamic, and constantly changing.

Why This Package

Everything you need, nothing you don't. Every component is built to Lunt's standards and works together straight from the case. The front-mounted tilt-tuned etalon delivers full unobstructed aperture performance at 0.35Å — tighter than any competitor at this aperture class. The mini helical focuser provides smooth, precise focus control with a non-rotating design and brass compression ring. The hard case with custom-fit foam protects every component in transit. And like all Lunt 40mm systems, the Standard is fully double-stack capable — add the LS40FHa at any time to bring combined system bandpass to <0.25Å.
