The Askar SQA55 is a compact, fast astrograph designed for both deep-sky astrophotography and general photography. It features a 55mm aperture, 264mm focal length, and fast f/4.8 focal ratio, making it well suited for wide-field imaging of large nebulae, star fields, and other deep-sky objects.
The SQA55 uses a five-element, air-spaced Petzval APO optical design incorporating one SD glass element and one ED glass element. Its 44mm image circle provides coverage for full-frame cameras, while the Petzval design provides a naturally flat field without requiring a separate field flattener.
The telescope has a 14-blade adjustable aperture ranging from f/4.8 to f/22, allowing it to function as both an astronomical imaging telescope and a general-purpose photographic lens. The front of the telescope features an M67 filter thread, while the rear M48 adapter incorporates a 2" filter thread.
A built-in 360° rotator allows the camera orientation to be adjusted for astrophotography, and the included multifunctional handle provides mounting points for accessories. The bottom of the telescope includes a Vixen-style 200mm dovetail plate as well as 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 tripod mounting threads.
