The Askar FRA400C is a versatile flat-field astrograph designed for astrophotography, visual observation, and general photography. It features a 72mm aperture, 400mm focal length, and f/5.6 focal ratio, providing a useful combination of wide field of view and light-gathering capability.
The FRA400C uses a five-element, fully air-spaced APO optical design incorporating two ED glass elements. Its 44mm image circle provides full-frame coverage, while the Petzval-style optical design provides built-in field correction without requiring a separate field flattener.
The telescope also incorporates a 17-blade adjustable aperture ranging from f/5.6 to f/22. This allows the FRA400C to be used for astrophotography as well as daytime photography of subjects such as landscapes and wildlife.
A helical manual focuser provides focusing adjustment, while the entire optical tube can be rotated to adjust camera orientation. The included multifunctional handle provides multiple mounting points for accessories and can also be used as a carrying handle.
The rear of the telescope accepts M72, M54, and M48 adapters. The M48 adapter includes a built-in 2" filter thread, and the system supports a 50–60mm rear connection distance, with 55mm recommended.
