The Askar 103APO is a versatile 103mm apochromatic refractor designed for both astrophotography and visual astronomy. With a 700.4mm focal length and f/6.8 focal ratio, it provides a useful combination of aperture, resolution, and field of view for deep-sky imaging and detailed visual observation.
The 103APO uses a triplet air-spaced APO objective incorporating one ED glass element for improved chromatic aberration correction. The optical tube features internal baffling and matte-finished surfaces to help reduce stray light and improve contrast.
A large 3.3" dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser provides a rigid platform for astrophotography, with 100mm of focusing travel and 1:10 fine adjustment. A 360° rotator with graduated markings allows precise camera framing, while two finder bases provide convenient mounting positions for finders and other accessories.
The 103APO features a two-section, detachable tube design. This allows the telescope to be configured for use with the optional 0.6x reducer and also provides additional optical-path flexibility when using a binoviewer.
Optional 1x flattener, 0.8x reducer, and 0.6x reducer accessories are available. The 0.8x reducer produces approximately 560mm at f/5.4, while the 0.6x reducer produces approximately 420mm at f/4.08 with field flattening.
