The iOptron HAZ71 AZ SWG (Strain-Wave Gear) Mount Head is an advanced alt-azimuth Go-To mount built around iOptron’s newest SWG drive architecture for both altitude and azimuth axes.
With an impressive payload capacity (~68 lb / ~31 kg) and mount head weight of only ~18.3 lb (~8.3 kg) including dovetail saddle, it offers a standout payload-to-weight ratio.
It’s designed for large telescope setups (including large refractors, SCTs, binoculars) that benefit from alt-az simplicity yet demand strong performance.

• Strain-Wave Gear (SWG) on both axes: The RA/azimuth and DEC/altitude axes both employ harmonic/strain-wave drives (800:1 reduction ratio) for minimal backlash and high precision.

• High Payload Capacity: Up to ~68 lb (31 kg) with the mount head weighing ~18.3 lb (8.3 kg) including the dovetail saddle.

• Counterweight-free Setup: Because of the SWG design and dual-saddle configuration, you may not need external counterweights for many setups (depending on optics) which simplifies field use.

• “Level & Go” Alignment: Built-in GPS, orientation sensors and “Level & Go” auto-alignment procedures allow rapid setup. No polar alignment required since this is alt-az.

• Integrated Features:

  • Built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery (11.1 V / 4.4 Ah) for standalone operation.

  • Built-in WiFi for tablet/smartphone control (via iOptron Commander Lite, SkySafari etc).

  • Electronic friction brake and power-down memory: mount can safely stop/lock in event of power interruption and resume alignment without full restart.

• Dual-Position Saddle / Dual-Dovetail: The mount offers a multiposition saddle (top or side) for mounting large binoculars or telescopes, and both Vixen & Losmandy style dovetail compatibility.

• Compact & Robust Build: All-metal CNC-machined construction with anodized black finish. Excellent build quality for serious field or observatory use.
