The iOptron HAE29B is a compact dual-mode (Alt-Azimuth / Equatorial) mount head employing advanced strain-wave-gear (SWG) drive technology on both the RA and DEC axes. It comes with the built-in “iMate” onboard computer/control system — meaning you don’t necessarily need a separate hand-controller.
Weighing only around 8.6 lb (≈3.9 kg including the dovetail saddle) but rated for a payload of up to 29 lb (≈13 kg) (without a counterweight) makes this an excellent choice for portable or travel rigs.
Key Features
-
Advanced Strain-Wave Gear Technology on both RA & DEC axes for high precision in a compact form factor.
-
Payload capacity approximately 13 kg (29 lb) with mount weight ~3.9 kg (8.6 lb) including saddle.
-
Dual-mode operation: You can use it in Alt-Azimuth mode (for ease of setup) or Equatorial mode (for tracking/imaging).
-
Built-in iMate computer: Ships with an open-source embedded computer board, pre-loaded with e.g. KStars/Ekos/INDI drivers, and features multiple ports (3× 12 V DC outputs, 2× USB2.0, 1× USB3.0) for connecting accessories.
-
Cable-drag-free mount operation: Because the iMate and accessory ports are integrated, the design supports tidy cable management and minimal external cable wrap.
-
Electronic friction brake: The mount features a brake mechanism to safely stop movement in the event of a power interruption.
-
Built-in WiFi and USB-C (on some ports) for control via tablet, computer or smartphone, and firmware upgrades.
-
Dual saddle compatible with both Vixen and Losmandy-D style dovetails for flexibility in mounting optical tubes.
-
Ultra-compact, all-metal CNC machined body with black anodized finish for durability and portability.
