NOTE: As of 8/29/25, ZWO has issued the following update for ASI585 Cameras. See below.

To further enhance the imaging performance of the ASI585 series and provide astrophotographers with an even better observing experience, ZWO’s R&D team has conducted extensive testing and precise optimizations. The HCG gain of the ASI585 series cameras has been adjusted to 200, allowing the cameras to maintain a wider dynamic range in HCG mode, reaching up to 12 stops.
This upgrade applies to five models: ASI585MM/MC, ASI585MM/MC Pro, and ASI585MC Air. After updating, you will need to re-shoot calibration frames to ensure proper stacking in post-processing.

We sincerely hope this optimization will further enhance your astrophotography journey.
We look forward to seeing the stunning images captured with your upgraded ASI585 cameras—feel free to share your results and experiences on social media or in the AstroImg!

This color CMOS USB 3.0 camera from ZWO features the Sony IMX585 sensor, with a 2.9 micrometer pixel size and a full-well depth of 40ke. The IMX585 sensor provides a large resolution of 3840 x 2160 with 8.29 megapixels, as well as very high sensitivity and very low read out noise.

Considered an improvement of the 485, the The IMX585 sensor measures 11.2 mm x 6.3 mm, with a diagonal of 12.86 mm. A major benefit of this sensor is the incorporation of STARVIS 2 technology. This allows for excellent visibility at low illumination, and can provide high light efficiency and high astrophotographic quality in visible and near-infrared light spectra. Compared to the ASI485MC, the 585 features zero amp glow, a lower dark current noise, and a 3x larger full well capacity. In addition, the 585 is more sensitive to red, green, and near infrared (NIR) lights. It also has a 1.5x greater light sensitivity than the 485MC. This CMOS camera is ideal for solar, lunar, and planetary imaging, and can also be used as an all-sky camera.
