The iOptron CEM40EC Mount Head is the enhanced “EC” version of the popular CEM40 series. It retains the impressive payload-to-weight ratio of the original but adds high-resolution encoders (“EC” = “Encoder/Control”) for real-time periodic error correction and finer pointing/tracking precision.

In essence: a robust, precision equatorial mount head built for serious applications — yet still relatively portable.

  • Center‐Balanced Design: The “CEM” (Center Balanced Equatorial Mount) architecture places the optical tube’s centre of gravity over the tripod/pier axis, reducing torque and improving stability vs many traditional offset mounts.
