B. Crist Miniature Nasmyth 20" Reflector
For a few years Barry Crist was making miniature reproduction telescopes. These very fine scale models are now prized by collectors for their exquisite and precise detail. They are so well made that a clever photograph can convince you it’s the real thing. James Nasmyth built this historically important 20 inch telescope about 1850. It was originally a standard Newtonian but Nasmyth added another mirror to put the optical axis through the trunnion for a much more usable eyepiece location. The Nasmyth focus is used on many modern observatory telescopes. The replica stands about 9 ½ inches tall. Many Crist models are articulated and can be moved to various display positions. Because of the complex gearing system this one is fixed.
